Debian conference in Pune - MiniDebConf2010

What is Mini DebConf?

Mini Debian Conference

Mini DebConf is a smaller version of Debian Project's developer conference. It is organized by Debian community in a particular region.

Mini DebConf India 2010

MiniDebConf India 2010 will be held in College of Engineering Pune on August 7th and 8th, 2010! Mini DebConf India 2010 is organized by DebianIndia in association with Uncode (Lokayat Free Software Initiative), CoFSUG (COEP Free Software user Group), FSUGP (Free Software User Group of PICT) and PLUG (Pune Linux User Group).

This is great opportunity where we can meet contributor who actually contributes in Debian Project. Also you will get more & more knowledge about Debian and Ubuntu its Guru. You will find a great community where students are really leading the activities. You will find next generation leaders, innovators, coders, hackers discussing ideas & exciting them. Here you can introduce yourself with Debian as Universal Operating System by Praveen. Kartik & team will going conduct a workshop where you will get hands on Debian Developer toolbox. And I think most important workshop will be Debian Packaging by Kartik & team where you can learn how to do packaging, which command to use, which process to follow. So one fine day you can create your own package like myfirstapplication_0.1_i386.deb or you can patch few lines in package like debianutils_2.30_i386.deb. This workshop is highly recommended for those who want to start contributing in Debian or Ubuntu Projects. On Sunday we have talk on Debian Edu by Vikram Vincent where he is going to shares his experience of helping children learn with Debian Edu. There will be open discussion on Collaboration between Debian, Ubuntu and BOSS. For those who don't know what is BOSS ? BOSS is Bharat Operating System Solutions  is a Linux distribution developed in India by NRCFOSS (National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software). Also there will be open discussion on Debian Community Activities - future plans. I expect more students will come forward to ask more questions as well as interested to organizing college level meeting & activities in their college. More hands on what we have learn in yesterdays workshop. This will be more hands on stuff for Bug Squashing Party and Packaging Sessions. Overall sessions/workshop looks so awesome. No one can afford to miss this event. Specially those who are interested in career in Free & Open Source Technologies, system or networking administrator.

Registration is open now! For schedule, see event wiki.

Here is some of the things you need to take care of,
  1. Create a gpg key
  2. Take print outs or write down your key finger print (you will need to give it to every one who participate ie, 50-100 fingerprints)
  3. Bring a photo id like passport, election id etc
  4. Update registration page and mention if you are bringing your own laptop
  5. If you are bringing your own laptop, make sure you have debian unstable installed on it or if you are brave enough pbuilder installed on another GNU/Linux
gpg related steps are explained in detail here. More details about pbuilder here. We will provide the pbuilder image. We can also provide Virtual Box images of debian unstable.
